Drum lessons in Aberdeen

Drum lessons at Fresh Music Aberdeen take place one-to-one in a fully equipped studio with a full electronic drum kit set up and ready to play. Every lesson is tailored to you — your level, your goals and the music that makes you want to play in the first place.

Fresh Music has over 20 years of teaching experience and has been rated the best music school in Scotland two years running. Drum students get the same personal, structured approach: clear goals, regular progress feedback and plenty of playing along to real songs.

What you will learn on drums

• Grip, posture and setting up the kit comfortably
• Timing and playing with a click or backing track
• Coordination and independence between hands and feet
• Core rock, pop and funk grooves, then more advanced styles
• Fills, dynamics and moving smoothly around the kit
• Reading drum notation and understanding song structure
• Rockschool and Trinity College grade preparation if you want it

Why learn on an electronic kit?

An electronic drum kit lets you hear every note clearly, play along to tracks at a comfortable volume and record your playing straight into the studio setup. It is a great way to hear your timing accurately and build good habits from the start. Many students practise at home on an electronic kit too, and Connor can give advice on what to buy.

Play songs from the very first lesson

Rather than endless exercises, lessons get you playing along to songs you know as early as possible. Technique and reading are introduced as you need them, so progress feels musical and motivating.

Drum lessons for children and adults

Drums are a brilliant instrument for children and teenagers — great for focus, coordination and confidence — and it is never too late for adults to start. Parents and guardians are welcome to sit in on lessons, and Connor holds an enhanced PVG through Disclosure Scotland. Lessons run Monday to Thursday, 9am to 9pm.
