Community Matters: Guitar Lessons in Aberdeen

One of the best things about teaching so many students as a guitar teacher in Aberdeen, is the opportunity to build a community of like-minded musicians.
As part of the Fresh Music Aberdeen experience students get the chance to meet together to jam, work out parts and experience what it’s like to play as part of a band. Whatever song they choose to do as a band I help teach them their part within their guitar lesson. This builds confidence and gives the student the drive to practice more knowing that they’re going to have to perform when the time comes.

The art of making a band work is structuring each group based on ability and genre of music preferred. It may seem obvious but asking a fan of country music to blast out a Slipknot song is probably not going to go down well. Equally asking a heavy metal player to play Jolene by Dolly Parton may be frowned upon. It’s about getting the right dynamic amongst every band/group.
It is always daunting the first time students meet one another and it’s always scary playing in front of others when you’ve never done it before. Within each guitar lesson at Fresh the student is taught the art of performance – how to fake it until you make it. A lot of it comes down to knowing what to do when you make a mistake or lose your place – keep going! It really is as simple as that but of course I do my best to ensure every student knows how to do that well.
Playing together does not only help build confidence as musicians and performers but it also helps mental health – it gives people a sense of purpose and belonging. There is no ego in what we do here. Everyone is in the same boat and Fresh Music Aberdeen as a music school is built on patience, kindness and equal opportunities.
If you want to experience what it’s like to play as part of a band or if you want to receive tailor made guitar lessons in Aberdeen, then Fresh Music Aberdeen is for you. Rated best in Scotland two years running – Fresh is best for guitar in Aberdeen!
